Jigjiga, January 23, 2025 — A high-level delegation led by the Deputy Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism of the Federal Government of Somalia , Abdirahman Yusuf Alcadaala, and the Deputy Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Abdiwahab Omar, has arrived in Jigjiga, the capital of the Somali Regional State (DDS), to participate in significant celebrations. The primary event is the 32nd anniversary of the foundation of DDS, taking place today in Jigjiga. “We were warmly welcomed by the Minister of Irrigation Development of DDS, Mohammed Fatah Mohammed, among other officials, here to partake in the commemoration of this valuable day,” stated Abdirahman Yusuf Alcadaala.Additionally, the delegation will also partake in the Xeer Ciise celebration, an ancient tradition shared by the communities of Somalia, Ethiopia, and Djibouti, recently recognized by UNESCO. This event will be held in Dire Dawa on January 24-25, showcasing the rich culture and history of the Somali people.“The Xeer Ciise celebration is an opportunity to display our region’s rich history and venerable culture, and to strengthen the ties between the Horn of Africa communities that share this heritage,” said Abdulkadir Rashid, Minister of Information Office of DDS.This event underscores the importance of fostering cultural cooperation and integration among Somalia, Ethiopia, and Djibouti, with attendance from high-ranking officials and other dignitaries from these countries.
