Luuq, Gedo, Somalia – A clan conflict broke out on February 9 in Luuq district, Gedo region, between two clans living in the area. The fighting is reportedly caused by a dispute over local administration and governance of the district.

The Jubaland Minister of Internal Security, Yusuf Hussein Osman, along with officials from the Gedo regional administration, held a meeting to discuss a peaceful resolution to the conflict in Luuq. They also called on the warring clans to stop the fighting and seek peace through dialogue.

Ugaas Mohamed Hassan, a traditional leader from one of the clans involved, urged both sides to immediately end the violence and resolve their disputes through negotiation and mutual understanding.

“The fighting in Luuq that started yesterday is something we do not support, and we did not expect it to happen. I urge everyone to stop the conflict. We call for peace. If this fighting continues, people will regret it in the future,” he said.

The Jubaland Minister of Security also called on the clans to cease hostilities and come to the negotiation table, warning against actions that could worsen tensions and prevent reconciliation.
