Speaker of the House of the People, Aadan Mohamed Nuur, addressing the opening of Somalia's 6th Parliamentary Session on February 22, 2025.

Mogadishu, Somalia – The Speaker of Somalia’s Federal Parliament, Aadan Mohamed Nur, has officially lifted the suspension on 15 Members of Parliament (MPs) who were previously banned from attending sessions of the Lower House.

A statement released by the Speaker’s office confirmed that the MPs are now permitted to participate in the 6th parliamentary session starting on Monday, February 24, 2025.

“The Speaker of the House of the People has decided to lift the suspension on the MPs listed below, allowing them to rejoin the sessions of the 6th parliamentary term starting Monday, February 24, 2025,” the statement read.

The MPs were originally suspended on December 8, 2024, after the Speaker’s office ruled that they had violated parliamentary rules. As part of the disciplinary measures, 14 MPs were banned from attending the first five sessions of the 6th term, while MP Hassan Abdi Ismail received a longer suspension of two months.

These MPs were known for strongly opposing the current government, particularly voicing criticism over key legislative decisions, including constitutional amendments and new electoral laws.
