Buqa Caleed, Puntland – Puntland security forces have claimed a major victory in their ongoing battle against Daesh after seizing key strongholds, including fortified bases, meeting facilities, and reinforced concrete structures built by the group in the mountainous region of Buqa Caleed.

According to a statement from Puntland’s Counter-Terrorism Command, security forces fully took control of Buqa Caleed, which had been a strategic location for Daesh operatives. Upon capturing the site, Puntland forces discovered well-constructed facilities, including administrative offices, meeting halls, and concrete-built residences, all previously used by Daesh as command centers for planning attacks.

“The forces discovered heavily reinforced concrete buildings, including administrative offices, meeting rooms, and other essential facilities. Before fleeing, the militants set fire to two vehicles—one large and one small—before abandoning the site,” confirmed security officials leading the operation.

The newly captured stronghold is considered one of Daesh’s largest bases in Puntland, signaling a significant blow to the group’s operational capacity in the region.

Puntland’s Intensified Offensive Against Daesh

In recent weeks, Puntland security forces have ramped up their counter-Terrorism operations, reporting a series of successive victories. Notably, the military recently seized 2,000 missiles manufactured by Daesh, further weakening the group’s firepower.

The third phase of Puntland’s Counter-Terrorism Operation is now in full swing, as announced recently by Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni.

Security analysts believe that Puntland’s sustained military pressure, coupled with support from regional and international partners, will continue to degrade Daesh’s presence in Somalia.

The Puntland authorities have vowed to eliminate Daesh threats across its territory, ensuring that Puntland remains a safe and stable region amid Somalia’s broader security challenges.
