Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre has arrived in Cairo to participate in an emergency Arab League summit convened by Egypt. The summit aims to develop a unified Arab strategy to prevent the forced displacement of Palestinians from Gaza and outline a post-war reconstruction plan.

The Somali Prime Minister is expected to deliver a speech reiterating Somalia’s firm stance on the Palestinian cause. As a non-permanent member of the United Nations, Somalia has consistently supported Palestinian rights and sovereignty.

The summit, called by Egypt, seeks to establish a collective Arab position safeguarding Palestinian rights while ensuring Gaza’s long-term stability and recovery. Key agenda points include early recovery efforts, rebuilding essential infrastructure, restoring housing and public services, and creating a political framework for a two-state solution.

The emergency meeting follows U.S. President Donald Trump’s controversial statement on February 5, suggesting the relocation of Gaza’s Palestinian population to Egypt and Jordan. Arab states strongly opposed the proposal, prompting Egypt to propose a comprehensive reconstruction plan that keeps Palestinians in their homeland.

On February 21, Egypt, Jordan, and the six Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states met in Riyadh to finalize the summit’s agenda.
