Escalating Tensions in Buqdharkayn

Buqdharkayn, a contested area in Sool region, has been a flashpoint of ongoing tensions between Somaliland and SSC-Khaatumo. Clashes have intensified since SSC-Khaatumo declared self-governance in February 2023, rejecting Somaliland’s authority over its territories.

The dispute has led to multiple battles in Laascaanood, Goojacadde, and other parts of Sool, with both sides accusing each other of violating peace agreements and destabilizing the region.

As Somaliland and SSC-Khaatumo continue to engage in territorial disputes, it remains uncertain whether diplomatic efforts will be able to prevent further clashes in the region.
