The Council of Ministers of Somalia has approved a memorandum of understanding between the Federal Government of Somalia and the Government of Egypt, allowing citizens of both countries holding diplomatic passports to be exempt from visa requirements. The agreement permits diplomatic passport holders to travel freely between the two countries for up to 90 days without needing a visa.

This diplomatic agreement was initially signed in Cairo in January 2024, following a meeting between Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. The agreement reflects a strengthening of bilateral relations and aims to ease official travel between the two governments.

A diplomatic passport is a special type of passport issued to senior government officials, diplomats, embassy staff, and their families. It provides special privileges when traveling and often exempts holders from visa requirements when entering friendly countries.

The ratification of this agreement is seen as a step forward in enhancing diplomatic ties between Somalia and Egypt, and it demonstrates growing political trust and cooperation between the two nations.
