Mogadishu, Somalia – The Government of Somalia has officially declared SSC-Khaatumo as a federal member state under the Federal Government of Somalia.In a statement issued by the Office of the Prime Minister, Hamza Abdi Barre, the Federal Government affirmed its recognition of SSC-Khaatumo as a Federal Member State, noting that the status will be finalized after a general conference is held and a community-based agreement (Constitution) is established.“The government has decided to recognize the SSC-Khaatumo administration as a Federal Member State, and this will be completed through a general conference and the establishment of a community agreement (Constitution),” the statement said.This decision follows the confirmation of resolutions made by the people of SSC-Khaatumo regarding the formation of state institutions. The government also reviewed the progress made in drafting the constitution and the preparations for the region’s general conference.Furthermore, the Federal Government clarified that the territories under the SSC-Khaatumo administration should not be referred to as disputed areas. The statement also confirmed that SSC-Khaatumo is now officially a member of the National Consultative Council (NCC).Previously, in October 2023, the Federal Government had declared SSC-Khaatumo as a temporary administration.With this announcement, SSC-Khaatumo becomes the sixth official Federal Member State within the Federal Republic of Somalia.
