Djibouti – The Djibouti Ship Repair Yard (DSRY) has officially launched yesterday its maritime repair services by receiving and working on its first vessel, marking a major milestone in the country’s ambition to become a key player in regional maritime services and logistics.According to the Djibouti News Agency, the vessel docked at the Port of Djibouti, where a team of 40 skilled technicians and engineers has begun repair operations scheduled to be completed within six days.The DSRY project began in 2020 and has since invested in advanced equipment and infrastructure to allow for the repair of large vessels.The Djibouti Ports and Free Zones Authority welcomed this development, describing it as a reflection of Djibouti’s growing capabilities and strategic vision in the maritime sector.“This first ship repaired at DSRY represents a new capability, a continuing chain of expertise, and a promising industrial future,” said the plant manager. He noted that ship repair operations demand precision, technical expertise, and the use of specialized tools and infrastructure.Located at a key crossroads between the Red Sea and the Indian Ocean, Djibouti is now positioning itself as a regional center for ship maintenance and maritime services, capitalizing on its geographic advantage and modern infrastructure to boost trade and economic growth.
