KAMPALA, UGANDA – April 24, 2025 — Heads of state from countries contributing troops to the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) are set to meet in Kampala on April 25, 2025, for high-level discussions on regional security and political cooperation concerning Somalia.

The summit, to be held at the State House in Entebbe, follows Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s visit to Uganda earlier this month, during which he and Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni emphasized the need for strengthened bilateral and multilateral engagement on Somalia’s security.

Leaders from AUSSOM member states — including Kenya, Ethiopia, Djibouti, and Egypt — will discuss strategies for boosting security collaboration, managing regional borders, and supporting military operations against extremist groups such as Al-Shabaab and Daesh.

Focus on Security and Funding

In addition to counterterrorism, the summit will address financial challenges facing AUSSOM, especially the need for sustained international funding. Discussions will explore avenues to support the African Union forces operating in Somalia, as they continue their mandate to stabilize the country and assist in state-building efforts.

Strategic Importance

This meeting is expected to be a critical platform for reaffirming international support for Somalia’s security architecture and for aligning troop-contributing countries on the next phase of peacekeeping and stabilization operations.

The summit will be attended by Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni and other regional leaders, who are anticipated to issue a joint communiqué outlining coordinated efforts to enhance AUSSOM’s impact and sustainability.
