Jigjiga, Ethiopia –The Somali Regional State (SRS) held a grand ceremony at the football stadium in Jigjiga on 27th April 2025 to mark the 34th anniversary of the founding of its Police Force.

The event was attended by high-level regional officials, including the Head of Security of SRS, Abdulqaadir Rashiid Ducaale, the Chief Commander of the DDS Police Force, Major General Abdi Ali Siyaad, the Deputy Mayor of Jigjiga, Mr. Khadar Budul, senior police officers, and members of the general public.

In his speech, the Head of Security, Abdulqaadir Rashiid Ducaale, stated that the police force has been dedicated to serving the community, which has made SRS one of the most stable regions in Ethiopia. He emphasized that the police have made continuous efforts to ensure public safety and community stability and to prevent security threats arising from various challenges within the region.

“Today is a special day where we commemorate the 34th anniversary of the establishment of the Somali Regional Police Force. The police have sacrificed their lives and time to protect the people of the region and have always safeguarded the honor and values of the community,” said Ducaale.

The 19th of Miyaaziya 1984 (Ethiopian Calendar) marks the day when the Police Force officially began its operations to maintain security in the region, a date now recognized as the official founding day of the Somali Regional State Police Force.
