Mogadishu – Members of Somalia’s House of the People who signed the motion to remove Speaker Aden Mohamed Nur (Aden Madobe) have reaffirmed their stance, stating that they remain committed to the motion and that the recent press release from the Speaker’s office does not change their position. The Speaker’s statement indicated that the issue concerning parliamentary seat HOP#201, held by MP Abdullahi Hashi Abiib, would be referred back to the Committee on Rules, Ethics, and Privileges for further review.MP Abdullahi Abuukar Haji, one of the signatories of the motion, said during a meeting of supporting MPs that the statement read by the Parliament’s Whip reflected legal irregularities.“The Speaker has not formally reversed his previous decision on the removal of MP Abiib made on May 15, 2025. An official, signed administrative order with legal procedures was required,” MP Haji stated.MP Abdullahi Arab added that the MPs who initiated the motion are dissatisfied with the Speaker’s press release and that their demand for his removal still stands.“The motion for the Speaker’s dismissal remains valid. We want the Somali public and all lawmakers to understand that this issue will not be resolved through an unlawful press statement,” Arab asserted. This comes amid growing tensions between the Parliamentary leadership and dissenting MPs, with a long-delayed parliamentary session expected to be held later today.
