Mogadishu – Former Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo has accused President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of pursuing a plan to dismantle the National Consultative Council (NCC) and turn it into a political party solely under his control.Farmaajo stated that this plan poses a threat to the unity and stability of the country and could delay Somalia’s state-building and democratization process. He warned that if the Council falls under the control of a single party, it could lead to a one-sided election that lacks inclusivity. The former president called on the leaders of the Federal Member States participating in the NCC—Galmudug, South West, Hirshabelle, and SSC-Khaatumo—as well as the Governor of the Banadir Region, to reconsider their participation in a political structure or party that lacks widely agreed-upon legal legitimacy.Farmaajo’s remarks come at a time of increasing political tensions surrounding the future of the NCC, with Puntland and Jubaland notably absent from the ongoing summit.
