Djibouti –The European Union (EU) and the African Union (AU) jointly celebrated 25 years of their strategic partnership on 7th may 2025, marking their strong cooperation.

The commemorative event took place at the Sheraton Hotel in Djibouti, with officials from the Djiboutian government, academics, young leaders, and civil society representatives in attendance.

According to Djibouti News Agency, the meeting focused on “25 Years of EU-AU Cooperation: Creating a Better Future for Future Generations,” resulting in an exchange of ideas on the joint issues facing the two continents.

Ilyas Musa Dawaaleh, Djibouti’s Minister of Economy and Finance, praised the EU’s commitment to regional development, emphasizing the importance of dialogue based on people’s situations and sustainable solutions.

Discussions centered on three key pillars: Security and Governance, Prosperity, and Social Cohesion. Regarding investment, Abdulqadir Hussein Mohamed from the Djibouti Center for Research and Studies (CERD) highlighted the visible benefits of EU investments in infrastructure, innovation, and youth employment.

He stated, “Shared prosperity comes from building internal projects and evaluating skills.”

Finally, EU representatives in Djibouti expressed gratitude and appreciation for the constructive discussions, reaffirming their commitment to further strengthening collaboration with the African Union.

This celebration in Djibouti coincides with the 25th anniversary of the EU-AU partnership, which will be marked in Brussels on May 21, 2025, during a Ministerial Conference with participation from over 80 countries and the new leadership of both the EU and AU.
