Mogadishu, May 8, 2025 – The Chairman of the Social Affairs Committee of the Jubbaland State Parliament, MP Shire Abdi Mohamed, has strongly criticized the recently concluded National Consultative Council (NCC) meeting held in Mogadishu, describing it as a “party-led forum” that failed to address the national priorities it was intended for.

In a public statement, MP Shire expressed disappointment over the outcomes of the summit, noting that expectations for meaningful discussions on governance, constitutional reform, and national elections were replaced by a narrow partisan agenda.

“The meeting in Mogadishu was essentially a political party gathering, where a specific group with a singular ideology claimed to represent the interests of the Somali people and the international community. That is unacceptable to us,” said MP Shire.

He further alleged that all Federal Member States attending the summit were pressured into aligning with the ruling party of the President, rendering the NCC process biased and exclusionary.

MP Shire’s comments come as the NCC summit officially concluded in Mogadishu last night, notably without the participation of the Jubbaland administration. One of the key resolutions from the summit tasked the Ministry of Interior, Federal Affairs, and Reconciliation with presenting recommendations for resolving the political situation in Jubbaland in line with the country’s constitution and laws.
