Mogadishu – The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Mr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, is participating today in the 34th Arab League Summit being held in Baghdad, Iraq.

President Mohamud arrived in Iraq yesterday, where he was officially welcomed by Iraq’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Fuad Hussein.

This year’s summit focuses on key issues such as the Palestinian cause, counterterrorism efforts, and strengthening security among Arab countries.

During the summit, Arab leaders will also discuss the ongoing crises in Yemen, Sudan, Syria, and Libya.

According to the Somali presidency, the summit will also address security and political developments in Somalia.

The previous Arab League Summit was held in Algiers in September 2023, where discussions centered on the Palestinian cause, the Gaza conflict, regional security issues, and advancing economic and political cooperation among Arab states.

The Arab League summits are annual meetings that began in 1946, with the first held in Cairo, Egypt. Since then, leaders of Arab countries have regularly convened to discuss regional affairs, politics, security, economy, and social issues.
