BRUSSELS, Belgium – Djibouti’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdulkadir Hussein Omar, participated in the third African Union–European Union (AU-EU) Ministerial Meeting held in Brussels on 21 May 2025, commemorating 25 years of strategic partnership between the two continental bodies.

The meeting was co-chaired by Tete António, Angola’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Kaja Kallas, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice President of the European Commission.

Ministers from both sides reviewed progress since the February 2022 AU-EU Summit and addressed key thematic areas including peace and security, governance, economic prosperity, and migration management. The session also highlighted the enduring value of a strong and equal partnership between the two continents.

Minister Abdulkadir Hussein Omar held bilateral talks with senior international officials, including Kaja Kallas, to discuss strengthening cooperation between Djibouti and the EU. He also met with Egypt’s Foreign Minister, Badr Abdelaty, and Germany’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Johann Wadephul, focusing on bilateral relations and regional stability.

Djibouti’s active engagement in the Brussels meeting reaffirms its strategic role in promoting peace, development, and regional integration, while deepening its international partnerships.
