Abukar OsmanMogadishu, Somalia – A consultative meeting between the Federal Government of Somalia and officially registered political parties was formally opened today in Mogadishu, as part of the preparations for the National Consultation Forum recently announced by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.The meeting was organized by the Coordination Committee of the National Forum, chaired by the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Hassan Macalin Mahmud. Minister Hassan described the meeting as crucial for Somalia’s political future, emphasizing that the formally registered political parties are the key stakeholders to be consulted on the security and political matters related to the Forum.“The primary group to be consulted on the political forum announced by President Hassan, which focuses on the country’s security and political situation, is the officially registered political parties,” Minister Hassan stated.The National Independent Electoral Commission has registered 30 political parties across the country, although there are other parties led by former officials who have not yet registered and oppose the current political framework.This meeting forms part of ongoing government dialogues with various social sectors, aiming to jointly plan the National Consultation Forum and reach sustainable political agreements.
