MOGADISHU, Somalia – James Swan, the UN Special Representative to Somalia, joined members of the international community on June 2, 2025, to receive a briefing from the leadership of the Somali Consultative Forum following their meeting at Hotel Jazeera.

According to a statement released by the UN Office in Somalia, the meeting followed regular discussions between the international community and Somali civil society, opposition groups, government officials, and also the Presidential candidates’ forum from the 2021-2022 elections.

The UN office stated that discussions between the Somali Consultative Forum and the international community heavily focused on the support for an inclusive national dialogue.

It highlighted the urgent need for Somalia’s leadership to unite on critical issues such as security, politics, and development to ensure Somalia’s progress and address the needs of its people.

This meeting comes as the Somali Consultative Forum, which includes the opposition, concluded a three-day meeting in Mogadishu, where they discussed the current situation of the country and their political vision for Somalia’s future.
