Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-The Federal Government of Somalia has condemned the bomb attack in Ankara, Turkey, targeting a government building on Sunday.

“The Government of the Federal Republic of Somalia strongly condemns the cowardly attack in Ankara-Turkey, and we send our condolences to the victims and their families,” the statement from Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs reads.

The federal government reiterated its commitment to stand with Turkey against terrorism, calling for joint international efforts to combat terrorism.

“The Federal Republic of Somalia stands in solidarity with Turkey against terrorism and we reaffirm our position of rejecting all forms of violence and terrorism, and call for a greater unity and the need for a real joint effort from the entire international community in fighting terrorism,” the statement reads in part.

The President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, also condemned the attack, stating it was a cowardly attack targeted at innocent people.

“In Somalia, we stand firmly with the brotherly people and government of the Republic of Turkey and strongly condemn the heinous terrorist attack in Ankara today. This act of evil cowardice aimed at hurting innocent lives fills us with determination to stand together against terror,” President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud wrote on his official Twitter account.

At least one person was killed, and two others were injured in a bombing attack on Sunday outside the Turkish Ministry of Interior building in Ankara.

The Turkish Interior Ministry confirmed that the two attackers killed a civilian and escaped with his vehicle ahead of the opening of parliament. The attack also injured two police officers who sustained minor injuries.

The PKK terrorist organization claimed responsibility for the attack and reported that it was carried out as planned without any obstacles, as per Pro-PKK news outlet, First News Agency.

Turkish Military conducted attacks on PKK targets in Northern Iraq just hours after the explosion in the city.

In a statement, the Ministry of Defense stated that Turkish warplanes conducted air attacks in the regions of Metina, Hakurk, Kandil, and Gara, and destroyed caves, bunkers, shelters, and hideouts used by the PKK terrorists.
