Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-For the first time in the football history of Somalia, the Somali national football team is participating in two international friendly matches.As the preparation for the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers, Somalia will face Niger on October 14th and Sierra Leone on October 17th this year.The Somali Football Federation has put a lot of effort to organise these friendly matches, which are crucial for the team’s preparation for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.Both matches will be held at the Berrechid Municipal Stadium in Morocco, which is now the home ground for the Somali team.“This year we are playing two international friendlies; it will be the first time Somalia plays international friendlies. I am very delighted that we are in action ahead of our FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Algeria and Uganda,” said Ali Abdi Mohamed, the President of the Somali Football Federation.The Somali national team travelled to Morocco yesterday (Sunday) and will soon be joined by players playing for European teams.Somalia has been placed in Group G alongside Algeria, Mozambique, Botswana, Guinea, and Uganda for the World Cup qualifiers.In recent years, football in Somalia has shown crucial improvement, with the Somali people acknowledging the national team’s success in recent competitions and their impressive performances. Somalia’s U17 national team won the U-17 CECAFA tournament held in Ethiopia.Somali athletes, whether born in Somalia or abroad, have become increasingly satisfied with Somalia’s representation.
