Hargeysa(Mogadishu24)-U.S. Ambassador to Somalia Richard H. Riley visited Hargeisa, Somaliland, for significant discussions aimed at fostering dialogue and enhancing regional security. During his visit, Ambassador Riley met with Somaliland President Muse Bihi Abdi, senior political leaders, civil society leaders, and members of the business community.

Ambassador Riley reiterated the United States’ longstanding commitment to supporting prosperity and democratic institutions in the region. He encouraged regional cooperation and dialogue to address diplomatic and security challenges and emphasized the importance of adhering to election timelines.

In meetings with private sector leaders, Ambassador Riley highlighted the potential for stronger ties with the U.S. business community. He underscored the importance of a vibrant civil society and the role of a free and professional press in promoting democratic values.

“I was honoured to receive U.S. Ambassador Richard H. Riley on his visit to the Republic of Somaliland. We discussed regional affairs, fostering cooperation in the Horn of Africa, upcoming elections, and strengthening relations between Somaliland and the United States of America,” said President Muse Bihi Abdi Thursday.

This visit underscored the United States’ dedication to promoting stability and democratic development in Somaliland and the broader Horn of Africa region.
