Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-Somalia’s Custodial Corps Command on Saturday revealed that the forces killed five Al-Shabaab inmates who attempted to fight with forces guarding the central Prison of Mogadishu.Spokesman for the Custodial Corps, Abdiqani Mohamed Khalaf said in a press conference that the Security forces lost their lives while three others were injured during the operation the prison.Khalaf said that 18 prisoners were also injured during the attack and the operation, making the death toll of both prison guards and prisoners who attempted to fight and the total of wounded were 21 including the three soldiers.The Command also displayed photos of the dead bodies through the social media run by the State Media after the operation, it did not provide details about the possibility of the group’s prisoners to access weapons, and bombs inside and then fight to escape.He added that an investigation related to the negligence of incident to occur, is under way.Sources say that the death toll and casualties in general are more than those identified by the Somali Custodial Corps.Al-Shabaab militants did not comment on the latest attack on the main prison under the Somali Federal Government in the capital Mogadishu, and the attack came after month of relative peace in the city.
