Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-A devastating car bomb attack targeted the Top Coffee shop in Mogadishu’s Bondhere district last night, killing over 10 people and injuring more than 20. The explosion occurred while young football fans were watching the EURO-2024 final game between Spain and England.

Former Somali President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed strongly condemned the attack.

“I strongly condemn the heinous attack on the young people who were watching games at the Top Coffee in Mogadishu tonight. This attack demonstrates the ruthlessness of terrorist groups towards our youth, who represent the future of our country, and towards the business community who have invested in their country. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the families of those affected by tonight’s attack. May God have mercy on those who lost their lives and grant a swift recovery to the injured.”

Member of the Federal Parliament and opposition leader, Abdirahman Abdishakur Warsame, also expressed his outrage on social media.

“May God have mercy on the people who lost their lives tonight in the explosion carried out by AS terrorists at the Top Coffee restaurant while they were watching the final game of the European Cup,” Warsame said. “The pictures shown here depict how AS terrorists are enemies of peace and our way of life. We must unite against this ruthless enemy that poses a threat to both the state and its people.”

Eyewitnesses and police sources confirmed the casualties, highlighting the tragic impact on the community, especially the young football fans who had gathered for the game. The attack underscores the ongoing threat posed by terrorist groups in Somalia, prompting calls for unity and resilience in the face of such violence.
