Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-Mahad Abdirahman Aden, Chief of Somalia’s Custodial Corps, has on Monday suspended Dahir Abdulle Rage from his position as commander of the central prison in Mogadishu. This decision comes in response to a recent jailbreak incident that resulted in the deaths of at least eight individuals, including three soldiers, and left 21 others wounded. In the wake of the incident, Gen. Mohamed Hussein Ahmed has been appointed as the interim commander of the prison according to the spokesperson for Somalia’s Custodial Corps Command, Abdiqani Mohamed Khalaf.Aden has also formed an eight-member committee from law enforcement to conduct a thorough investigation into the jailbreak. The committee will aim to determine how the prisoners managed to obtain weapons inside their cells, amidst growing suspicions of an inside job.The jailbreak, which occurred two days ago, has raised serious security concerns and prompted calls for accountability within the prison system. The investigation is expected to shed light on potential lapses in security protocols and any involvement of prison staff in facilitating the escape.
