Djibouti(Mogadishu24)-Djibouti President Ismail Omar Guelleh has on Tuesday expressed deep condolences to Ethiopia in the wake of devastating mudslides in the southern Ethiopia district of Gofa. The tragic event has resulted in the loss of over 157 lives.“Deeply saddened to hear about the devastating mudslides in the southern Ethiopia district. Over 157 people lost their lives. Our heartfelt condolences and sympathies during this difficult time. We extend our support and stand ready to assist in any way possible,” President Guelleh said on X.The first landslide, triggered by heavy rains, struck the remote region of the Gofa zone on Monday. This initial disaster was followed by a second landslide that buried individuals who had gathered to assist in rescue efforts. Markos Melese, the zonal head of the national disaster response agency in Gofa, confirmed that at least 157 bodies had been recovered from two villages.Djibouti stands in solidarity with Ethiopia during this tragic time, offering support and readiness to provide assistance as needed.
