Nairobi(Mogadishu24)-Kenya’s campaign for the African Union Commission (AUC) Chairperson position gained significant momentum Wednesday as H.E. Dr. Musalia Mudavadi, Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, alongside Kenya’s candidate, Raila Odinga, held a joint press conference to update the nation on the bid’s progress.

Dr. Mudavadi confirmed that all preparations are complete following the formal submission of Kenya’s documentation to the AUC Secretariat. He highlighted Odinga’s vision for the AUC, focused on African integration, infrastructure development, economic transformation, intra-African trade, and more.

Mudavadi praised President William Ruto’s full support of Odinga’s candidature, terming it an act of statesmanship.

Raila Odinga reaffirmed his commitment to a united, peaceful, and prosperous Africa, quoting Kwame Nkrumah: “Africa must unite or perish.” He pledged to address key challenges in healthcare, education, employment, peace, and security.

The official launch of Odinga’s AUC Chairperson campaign is set for 27 August 2024, with elections scheduled for 25 February 2025. Kenya and Djibouti are currently leading the race in lobbying and campaign activities.
