Djibouti(Mogadishu24)-The National Institute of Public Health, through the Ministry of Health, has firmly denied rumors that the Mpox (formerly known as monkeypox) virus is present in Djibouti. Authorities confirmed that, to date, there have been no confirmed cases of Mpox in the country.

Djiboutian health authorities are closely monitoring the situation and are working in collaboration with international health organizations to detect and prevent any potential outbreaks. The Ministry of Health has assured the public that preventive and control measures are in place to protect public health.

The Ministry emphasized the importance of relying on official information from credible health sources and urged the population to remain calm. Any developments will be promptly communicated to the public.

“For reliable health information in Djibouti, the public is encouraged to contact the Ministry of Health”, it said a statement. Mpox, a viral disease originating in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in 1970, can spread through close contact and occasionally via contaminated objects and surfaces. Despite its origins, the disease has been neglected in some regions, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
