Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-Somali Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, H.E. Amb. Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, held a constructive meeting today with the British Ambassador to Somalia, Michael Stephen Nithavrianakis.

The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral relations and the UK’s reaffirmation of Somalia’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and unity.

The meeting comes just days after Minister Fiqi expressed strong disapproval of a recent tweet by Ambassador Nithavrianakis, which mentioned the UK’s support for the work of The HALO Trust in “Somalia and Somaliland.” The tweet sparked controversy, as it was perceived by many Somalis as a divisive statement. The Ambassador has clarified his intent behind the message later.

Despite the recent tensions, both officials underscored the longstanding partnership between the United Kingdom and Somalia, particularly in the areas of security, development, and humanitarian projects.

The meeting highlighted the commitment of both nations to continue working closely together to support Somalia’s progress and stability.
