Djibouti(Mogadishu24)-The Director General of the National Institute of Statistics of Djibouti (INSTAD), Dr. Ibrahim Abdi Hadi, has on Thursday announced the provisional results of the third General Census of Population and Housing (RGPH-3).

According to the report, Djibouti’s population has grown to 1,066,809, marking a significant increase from 818,159 in 2009, with an annual growth rate of 1.8%.

The census highlights that Djibouti City hosts 72.8% of the population, underlining the challenges of urban density and infrastructure development. Additionally, Djibouti’s population is predominantly young, with an average age of 25.6 years, presenting both opportunities and challenges in education and employment.

The census results will guide policymakers in developing strategies for urban planning, social services, and sustainable development, as 84.3% of the population now resides in urban areas. Dr. Ibrahim emphasized that these findings offer critical insights for shaping the future of the country and ensuring inclusive growth.
