Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-At least five people were killed and over ten others injured after twin explosions rocked a main road near Kahda district, southwest of Mogadishu, on Saturday evening according to eyewitnesses.

The blasts, believed to have been triggered remotely, prompted a swift response from Somali security forces, who cordoned off the area and launched an investigation.

While authorities have yet to provide specific details about the attack, the militant group Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility through its affiliated media. The group stated that the explosions targeted Somali government security personnel, claiming to have killed eight and injured 16 others.

The attack is the latest in a series of violent incidents linked to Al-Shabaab, which continues to wage an insurgency against Somalia’s federal government. Security efforts in the capital remain heightened as investigations into the incident continue.
