Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre and his delegation departed for New York on Tuesday to participate in the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

Under the theme “Leaving no one behind,” the Prime Minister will emphasize Africa’s critical role in shaping global agendas and advocate for unity and diversity as essential pillars for a peaceful and sustainable future.

Farhan Mohamed Jimale, spokesperson for the Somali government, confirmed the Prime Minister’s participation in the high-level talks, which will focus on global cooperation to promote peace, sustainable development, and human dignity for both current and future generations.

While Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud canceled his attendance for the second consecutive year, Prime Minister Barre is expected to address pressing issues facing Somalia, including security challenges, tensions between the Federal States and the Federal Government, and the debate over Egypt’s involvement in the post-ATMIS era.

Somalia also faces constitutional challenges and strained relations with neighboring Ethiopia.

Barre’s speech is anticipated to highlight Africa’s pivotal role in global peace and development, underscoring the importance of unity and diversity in achieving lasting peace and progress.
