New York, USA(Mogadishu24)–In a powerful address, Djibouti emphasized the need for bold reforms and strengthened multilateralism during a session at the United Nations.Speaking on behalf of African nations, the Djiboutian representative expressed gratitude to facilitators, Germany and Namibia, for their leadership in advancing discussions on a “Pact for the Future.”The representative acknowledged the challenges faced by the UN but underscored that the current moment presents a unique opportunity for change. The erosion of multilateralism, they warned, carries significant risks, and global governance must adapt to meet today’s realities.Djibouti called for reform of the international financial architecture to address inequities and align with the modern world, as well as an accelerated reform of the UN Security Council to rectify historical injustices against Africa and other regional groups.The representative also highlighted the urgent need to reaffirm the UN Charter’s principles, emphasizing sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the peaceful resolution of disputes. With global arms control and nuclear threats growing, Djibouti urged the global community to commit to conflict prevention and international peacekeeping efforts.
