Jigjiga(Mogadishu24)-Regional authorities have launched a major water supply project in Jigjiga, the capital of the Somali State in Ethiopia, aiming to provide clean water to the cities of Awbarre, Sheed-Dhere, and Qabribayah.Funded by the German Development Bank, this initiative, known as “R Wash,” will address the water needs of these cities by drilling new wells and expanding existing ones to ensure a steady and sufficient water supply for local communities.The $1.7 billion project is expected to significantly improve living standards by ensuring access to clean and adequate water.The Somali State has been enhancing its development projects, including infrastructure like roads, health facilities, and airports, with support from the Federal Government of Ethiopia and international partners over the past five years.
