Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-The Federal Republic of Somalia has strongly condemned the recent attack on the residence of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Ambassador in Khartoum, Sudan Tuesday.

In an official statement, Somalia firmly rejected any violations of international laws and diplomatic norms, emphasizing the need to uphold and respect diplomatic missions and their inviolability.

The Somali government highlighted the importance of safeguarding diplomatic compounds as outlined in the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, which mandates the protection and security of diplomatic missions worldwide.

“Somalia unequivocally rejects any violations of international laws and diplomatic norms,” the statement read, underscoring the critical importance of adhering to international conventions that ensure the safety of diplomatic representatives and their premises.

The condemnation comes a day after the UAE accused the Sudanese Army of targeting its diplomatic compound in the Sudanese capital of Khartoum. While the UAE called out the attack on its diplomatic mission, the Sudanese military denied involvement, rejecting the accusations.

Sudan has been embroiled in conflict since April 2023, following heightened tensions and clashes between the Sudanese Army and rival factions. The situation has led to increased violence and instability in Khartoum and other parts of the country, putting civilians and diplomatic missions at significant risk.

Somalia’s condemnation of the attack reflects the country’s commitment to upholding diplomatic protocols and protecting international diplomatic relations, particularly as they pertain to peace and security in the region. The Somali government called for immediate measures to ensure the safety and protection of all diplomatic missions in Khartoum, as tensions in Sudan continue to escalate.

Somalia’s firm stance aligns with its broader commitment to fostering international peace and security, particularly in times of conflict and turmoil affecting diplomatic missions and personnel around the world.
