Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-Somali Prime Minister, Hamza Abdi Barre on Monday evening denied reports that the National Consultative Council (NCC) meeting ended in failure. Instead, he clarified that the discussions are still ongoing and that the stakeholders are engaged in consultations on key points.

A communique will be issued after the consultations are completed.

In a public address, Hamza emphasized the government’s commitment to unity, urging the Somali public to support the government’s efforts to liberate the country from Al-Shabaab.

“I want to assure the Somali people that the NCC meeting is still in progress, and the leaders are engaged in consultations on some important points. Once these consultations are concluded, decisions and a communique will be released,” he said.

The Prime Minister highlighted the success of previous NCC meetings, noting that this is the tenth gathering, and many important decisions have been made in the past to enhance national unity, security, economic reforms, and the fight against extremist groups.

He reiterated that the government remains dedicated to upholding Somalia’s unity and sovereignty.

Hamza’s remarks came just hours after Jubaland State President Ahmed Madobe left the NCC meeting, returning to Kismayo while insisting that the talks could not proceed without Puntland’s participation.

Despite the absence of Puntland, Hamza assured the public that the government is committed to fostering dialogue and achieving success in the ongoing discussions.

“We are committed to taking the country forward in all aspects—politically, economically, and socially—and I call on all Somalis to support the government’s efforts to ensure progress and unity,” the Prime Minister concluded.
