Asmara(Mogadishu24)-A Tripartite Summit between Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, and Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud was held today, with the leaders reaching key agreements on regional security, cooperation, and respect for international law.

The three heads of state emphasized the importance of adhering to the principles of international law, particularly respecting the sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of nations in the region. They agreed to enhance cooperation to strengthen Somali state institutions and the Somali National Federal Army’s ability to combat terrorism.

Key topics of discussion included:

  • The crisis in Sudan and its regional impact,
  • The evolving situation in Somalia, particularly in light of recent developments,
  • Security and cooperation among the Littoral States of the Red Sea and the Bab-al Mandab Strait, a critical maritime route.

The leaders also agreed to establish a Joint Tripartite Committee of Foreign Ministers from Eritrea, Egypt, and Somalia to advance strategic cooperation across various sectors, according to Eritrean Minister of Information, Yemane Meskel.

This summit marks a significant step toward fostering stability and collaboration in the Horn of Africa and surrounding regions.
