Hargeisa(Mogadishu24)-Somaliland’s Minister of Health, Hassan Mohamed Ali, signed a cooperation agreement with Taiwan’s Ambassador, Allen Leo, on Saturday for the construction of the Taiwan Medical Center at Hargeisa Group Hospital.

Taiwan has pledged $22 million for the construction of the facility, which aims to enhance healthcare services in the region.

Minister Ali expressed his gratitude for Taiwan’s continued support, noting their cooperation in agriculture, education, technology, trade, and health as crucial for Somaliland’s development.

The two sides have strengthened their partnership since establishing mutual representative offices in 2020, despite neither being internationally recognized.

In addition to this health project, Taiwan provided $2 million in September for the construction of the “Taiwan Road,” connecting Egal International Airport to Hargeisa.

The signing of these agreements comes as Somaliland prepares for its upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections scheduled for November 13, 2024.
