Djibouti City(Mogadishu24)-Ethiopian Ambassador to Djibouti, Berhanu Tsegaye, held extensive discussions with Ethiopian expatriates in Djibouti, addressing key national and regional issues, including the rights of citizens abroad and the fight against human trafficking.

In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), Ambassador Tsegaye emphasized the responsibilities of the Ethiopian diaspora in countering misinformation and supporting national interests.

The talks also focused on the urgent need to strengthen measures against illegal human trafficking, following the recent tragic incident off the coast of Djibouti, where 48 Ethiopian migrants lost their lives.

Ambassador Tsegaye highlighted the necessity of increased cooperation among institutions to prevent such tragedies, stressing that the Ethiopian government is committed to taking strong action against those facilitating illegal migration.

The recent boat tragedy, which involved two overcrowded vessels carrying 320 migrants, has brought renewed attention to the dangers of human trafficking routes in the region.
