Eastleigh, Nairobi(Mogadishu24)-Businesses in Eastleigh, Nairobi’s Somali neighborhood, were on Thursday shut down as residents took to the streets to protest the brutal abduction and killing of three women

The victims, identified as Waris Daud, her daughter Amina, and her niece Nuseiba, were found dead on Tuesday, with their bodies recovered from different locations around the city, sparking outrage and demands for justice.

The women’s remains were discovered in Parklands, Bahati, and Machakos, while severed hands were found in South C, adding to the horror of the crime. The abductions and killings have shocked the Eastleigh community, where Somalis gathered in large numbers, carrying banners that read “Justice for our sisters.”

Yusuf Hassan, Member of Parliament for Kamukunji, joined the protests, expressing deep sorrow over the murders and calling on the government to take swift action.

“We gathered with hundreds of people to honour the three women from Eastleigh who were tragically murdered on Tuesday by unknown assailants. I urge the authorities to investigate this heinous crime and bring the perpetrators to justice,” he said.

Hassan was accompanied by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, who also called for increased police patrols in Eastleigh to improve security and protect residents.

Both leaders urged the community to remain vigilant and proactive in safeguarding their neighborhood, emphasizing the need for authorities to address the rising insecurity that Somalis in Nairobi face.

The incident follows the recent discovery of a Wajir Member of County Assembly (MCA) who was found dead after being abducted in Nairobi and missing for more than a month.

The spate of kidnappings and killings has raised serious concerns about safety, especially within the Somali community, which has invested heavily in Kenya’s economy but is increasingly fearful due to these security threats.

Protesters in Eastleigh called for justice, demanding that authorities address the insecurity and ensure that residents can live without fear of abduction or violence. The demonstrations reflect the community’s collective grief and anger, and the urgency of action to protect their safety.
