Hargeisa(Mogadishu24)-Danish Ambassador to Somalia, Steen Sonne, has expressed optimism about Somaliland’s upcoming elections, commending the Somaliland National Electoral Commission (SLNEC) for its transparency and organization in the lead-up to the November 13 elections.

Following a recent pre-election visit, Ambassador Sonne emphasized the importance of a credible, fair, and safe election process that reflects the aspirations of all Somalilanders.

“The preparations are going well, and SLNEC continues to impress by leading a transparent and well-organized process,” Sonne said.

He underscored that ensuring free and fair elections is a “joint responsibility” that involves political actors, their supporters, civil society, media, and international partners.

With the first phase of the election campaign concluding on Monday, Somaliland’s presidential and parliamentary races are attracting international attention and support, including from the European Union.

The international community has expressed continued backing for a peaceful and inclusive election that meets high democratic standards.
