Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Somalia has declared Ali Mohamed Adan, a Counselor II at the Ethiopian Embassy in Somalia, persona non grata, citing his engagement in activities deemed incompatible with his diplomatic duties. The Ministry stated that Adan’s actions violated the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations (1961), specifically Articles 41 and 42, which require diplomats to respect the host nation’s laws and refrain from internal political involvement. He has been given 72 hours to leave Somalia. This move underscores Somalia’s commitment to defending its sovereignty and adhering to international diplomatic standards.Tensions between Somalia and Ethiopia have intensified since Ethiopia signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Somaliland earlier this year, leasing 20 kilometers of coastal access.Following this agreement, Somalia previously expelled Ethiopia’s Ambassador to Somalia, and two rounds of Turkey-brokered negotiations have so far failed to resolve the dispute.Somalia’s Foreign Ministry emphasized its dedication to safeguarding national interests and maintaining international diplomatic protocols, reiterating its stance on upholding sovereignty and the rule of law in diplomatic relations.
