Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-Somalia’s Disaster Management Agency (SODMA) has sent two shipments of critical food aid to Diinsoor, an isolated town in the Bay region of Southwest State, where severe drought and isolation by Al-Shabaab militants have left residents in dire need.

Two planes carrying food supplies, provided by the Chinese government, were dispatched to assist internally displaced people in Diinsoor and nearby areas.

“This aid comes at a critical time as residents in Diinsoor face increasingly harsh living conditions,” said SODMA officials.

Al-Shabaab’s control over surrounding areas has cut off Diinsoor from other regions, including Gedo, Middle Juba, and Lower Shabelle, intensifying the town’s isolation.

While Ethiopian forces are reported to be stationed in Diinsoor, it remains unclear if they are part of the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) or other units.

This distribution effort highlights ongoing challenges in delivering aid to conflict-affected areas where both drought and security issues compound the humanitarian needs of vulnerable populations.
