Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre on Monday held meeting with the EU Deputy Managing Director for Africa, Mr. Mathieu Briens, to reaffirm Somalia’s commitment to enhancing security, stability, and economic development.Their talks highlighted Somalia’s ongoing security transitions, political inclusivity, and the upcoming federal elections as critical steps in Somalia’s path to sustainable stability and democratic governance according to the office of the Prime Minister.In support of these efforts, the European Union recently announced a EUR 9 million budget support payment to Somalia under the Somalia State and Resilience Building Contract (SRBC II), dated September 30.This financial assistance is set to strengthen Somalia’s macroeconomic stability, enhance public financial management, and drive forward key reforms like domestic revenue mobilization, fiscal federalism, and public education improvements through initiatives such as the National Teacher’s Initiative.EU Ambassador to Somalia, Ms. Karin Johansson, emphasized the significance of this commitment, saying, “The disbursement of this budget support payment signals the EU’s strong support of Somalia’s progress on managing its public finances in an accountable and transparent way.”The EU’s continued partnership underscores a shared commitment to Somalia’s long-term resilience and transparent governance.
