Addis Ababa(Mogadishu24)-The World Without Hunger Conference, a three-day event co-organized by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the Government of Ethiopia, and the African Union (AU), commenced Tuesday at the Adwa Victory Memorial Museum.Supported by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the conference aims to mobilize global action to address pressing food security challenges.Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) officially opened the conference, lauding UNIDO’s efforts to advance the fight against hunger and outlining a call for innovative, sustainable practices to meet the food needs of a growing global population.“In a crisis-prone world, ending hunger requires more than food production increases,” Abiy stated, highlighting the need for systemic changes, poverty reduction, and climate resilience.Key attendees include UNIDO Director-General Gerd Muller, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and AU Commission Chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat.Over 1,500 delegates from various sectors—ranging from heads of state, UN agencies, and financial institutions to NGOs, academia, and media—are present to engage in high-level discussions.The conference is structured around solution-focused sessions, starting with today’s technical sessions on agribusiness, climate adaptation, and fair trade. On day two, an investment forum will introduce opportunities in agribusiness infrastructure and technology, aiming to attract investment to mobilize $50 billion for sustainable food security initiatives over the next decade.The event will conclude with a political forum, the presentation of the Addis Ababa Call to Action for A World Without Hunger, and a comprehensive Conference Outcome Report. This initiative marks a significant global step toward ending hunger, highlighting Ethiopia’s role in international food security efforts.
