Berlin,Germany(Mogadishu24)-During a bilateral meeting in Berlin, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud reached an agreement to accelerate the deportation of Somali migrants who lack legal residency in Germany.The agreement, highlighted in a joint press conference, outlined plans for swift and efficient repatriation, primarily targeting serious offenders among Somali nationals residing in Germany.“This approach is in the best interest of the well-integrated Somali community here in Germany, who contribute positively to society,” Chancellor Scholz said, underscoring that a majority of the 65,000 Somalis in Germany remain in good standing.The talks between the two leaders also addressed other areas of cooperation, with discussions extending to regional stability in the Horn of Africa according to the country’s news agency, DPA.This historic meeting marks the first formal discussion between Scholz and Mohamud, reflecting strengthened ties and shared objectives in managing migration and addressing regional security concerns.
