Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-The Somali government has officially denied allegations of blocking social media accounts of influencers, politicians, and other users, both domestically and abroad, mainly on Facebook.Reports had surfaced suggesting the government targeted accounts accused of inciting violence, tribal divisions, or criticizing state policies. In response, Deputy Minister of Information Abdirahman Yusuf Al-Adala dismissed the claims as “baseless,” asserting that there is no initiative to restrict voices or victimize bloggers.“There are no circumstances forcing us to act in this way. If issues arise, we address them through legal procedures, dialogue, and public education,” Al-Adala said in a press briefing when asked about the alleged actions. The controversy ignited after Puntland’s Minister of Interior, Abdi Farah Said Juha, accused the government on X, saying, “Freedom of expression is under threat by HSM and his loyalists,” referencing recent account shutdowns including his facebook account and urging international platforms to protect freedom of expression.Freedom #UNDERSIEGE!Democracy, freedom of expression and #Somdebate is #underthreat by XSM and his #thinskin loyalists.
