Hargeisa(Mogadishu24)-Ahmed Mohamed Mohamud Silanyo, the 4th President of Somaliland, passed away on Friday night in Hargeisa at the age of 86, his family confirmed. Silanyo, a pivotal figure in Somaliland’s history, is remembered for his contributions to peace, democracy, and development in the region.“We are deeply saddened by the passing of H.E. Ahmed Mohamed Mohamoud ‘Silanyo.’ His leadership and dedication to peace, democracy, and development have shaped our nation’s history. His legacy will inspire generations to come,” the Somaliland Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Saturday.Born in Buro in 1938, Silanyo held key roles in Somali and Somaliland governance. He served as the Chairperson of the Somali National Movement (SNM), founded the ruling Kulmiye Party, and was the President of Somaliland from 2010 to 2017.
