Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-The African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) has expressed concern over allegations circulating in some Somali media outlets accusing its police component of involvement in the ongoing electoral process in Jubaland State. In a statement issued on Saturday evening, ATMIS reaffirmed its neutrality and impartiality, emphasizing its non-involvement in any electoral disputes, including those in Jubaland.ATMIS reiterated its commitment to supporting Somalia’s state-building process, particularly efforts to transition to one-person, one-vote elections through an inclusive and participatory process. The mission urged all stakeholders, including the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) and Jubaland State authorities, to engage in constructive discussions to resolve electoral disagreements peacefully. The statement follows Jubaland’s continued defiance of international and federal calls for dialogue. On November 21, Jubaland re-elected Abdi Mohamed Abdirahman as Speaker of its Parliament for a third term, and Ahmed Mohamed Islam (Madobe) is widely expected to secure a third presidential term in elections scheduled for Monday, November 25.Madobe has already received his presidential candidacy certificate.Three days ago, international partners issued a joint statement calling for reconciliation, stating, “We urge all stakeholders to engage in constructive and inclusive discussions on the electoral process. Jubaland State is urged to return to the NCC for an open discussion of all outstanding issues and to restore ties with the FGS.”ATMIS emphasized its commitment to fostering stability and security in Somalia while urging all parties to prioritize dialogue and inclusivity to prevent further escalation of political disputes.
