Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-The Somali Government has reacted to the developing situation in Syria, where President Bashar Al-Assad reportedly fled the country, and opposition forces claimed control.

Drawing parallels to Somalia’s own turbulent history, Somali leaders urged for calm and a peaceful transition of power.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ali Mohamed Omar, expressed Somalia’s concerns, saying, “The current events in Syria remind us of Somalia’s 1991 turmoil after the fall of Siad Barre. We pray for peace, stability, and smooth transitions in Damascus, as unity remains key to preventing further chaos.”

Somalia, which endured decades of conflict following its own leadership collapse in 1991, emphasized the importance of prioritizing national dialogue and avoiding prolonged instability.

The Somali Government reiterated its hope for a swift resolution to the crisis, underscoring the importance of learning from historical lessons to avoid widespread humanitarian suffering.
